BEU Host Expert Meeting on Gender Equality

A meeting with an expert on the topic of "Gender and Domestic Violence: In the Context of National Values" has been organized by the Women's Council of Baku Engineering University (BEU).
The primary objectives of the meeting were to foster students' understanding of gender equality, to highlight the importance of combating existing stereotypes in society, and to discuss the significance of achieving harmony between national values and international gender principles.
The event was opened with an address by BEU Vice-Rector and Chair of the Women's Council, Atraba Gul, who noted that gender equality is of great importance for the sustainable development of society in the modern era. The Vice-Rector emphasized that holding awareness-raising events in this area contributes to enhancing young people's sense of social responsibility and their knowledge of legal rights.
The floor was then taken by the event's guest speaker and main presenter, Mehriban Zeynalova, Chair of the Fund for Assistance to Victims of Human Trafficking under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Head of the "Clean World" Center under the Association for the Protection of Women's Rights. The speaker provided information on her research in the field of combating gender-based violence and the measures being implemented in this regard.
In her address, the Center's Director touched upon the distinctions between the concept of respect for women and gender equality, and explained the role of education and family upbringing in the formation of stereotypes. She also drew attention to the feasibility of striking a balance between preserving national identity and upholding international gender principles, as well as the importance of media responsibility in this process.
The meeting, held in an interactive format, featured extensive discussions on the challenges faced by modern families and the impact of social media on relationships and family values, with students' questions addressed throughout.
It is noted that the event was organized within the framework of promoting Goal 5 (Gender Equality) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
