BEU Student: My Goal Is to Contribute to Azerbaijan's Technological Advancement

Baku Engineering University (BEU) third-year Electronics Engineering student Hakim Musazade will continue the final year of his studies in the Republic of Korea under the dual degree program jointly implemented by BEU and INHA University. He won second place in the "Line Following Robot" category at the Robotex Azerbaijan-Eurasia Championship 2025, earning the right to represent Azerbaijan at the international grand final to be held in Denmark. He also secured first place in the "Fast Line Following Robot" category at the AIRO 2025 competition.

In an interview with AZERTAC, Hakim Musazade spoke about his reasons for choosing the BEU-INHA University Dual Degree Program, his expectations regarding studying in the Republic of Korea, and his future career plans.

- What were the key factors that influenced your decision to join the BEU–İNHA University Dual Degree Program?

– One of the greatest advantages of this program, in my opinion, is the efficient use of time. Earning degrees from two universities within four years is a significant opportunity for engineering students. Time is one of the most valuable resources we have, and this program enables us to use it more effectively. Another important advantage is graduating from both an Azerbaijani and a Korean university. This provides additional competitive advantages in both the domestic and international job markets. Furthermore, during our one-year study period in the Republic of Korea, we will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, establish international networks, and gain first-hand experience in a different academic and professional environment.

- How did the admission and preparation process for the program go for you?

- The admission process consisted of several stages. Although the results of the State Examination Center served as one of the primary selection criteria, we were also required to take the program's internal entrance examination. The exam included questions in physics, mathematics, and English, and all questions were presented in English. During my preparation, I reviewed examination papers from previous years and focused on strengthening both my technical knowledge and my understanding of technical terminology in English. Preparing for subject-specific questions in English within a limited period was challenging; however, a systematic study approach enabled me to successfully complete the selection process.

- What are your expectations regarding studying in the Republic of Korea and experiencing its advanced technological environment?

– The Republic of Korea is one of the world's leading countries in electronics and advanced technologies. Studying in a country that is home to global companies such as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai is a tremendous advantage for an engineering student. During my time in Korea, I hope to work in university laboratories, participate in research projects, and gain practical experience with cutting-edge technologies. One of my primary goals is to develop expertise in laboratories specializing in electronics, robotics, and embedded systems. I believe this experience will make a significant contribution to my professional development.

- While studying in Korea, you will represent both Baku Engineering University and Azerbaijan. What kind of responsibility do you feel in this regard?

- As part of a group of 117 students studying in the Republic of Korea, we will represent not only ourselves but also Azerbaijan. We will be recognized there as representatives of Azerbaijani youth. The conduct of a single individual can shape perceptions of an entire nation. Therefore, every student should recognize this responsibility and strive to be a worthy representative of both their family and their country.

At the same time, respecting the local culture and social norms will contribute positively to our academic and personal success.

Moreover, many Azerbaijani students have already demonstrated a strong commitment to self-development before even going abroad. They actively participate in competitions, internship programs, and some have already begun their professional careers. Showcasing their knowledge and skills internationally is a major advantage. It can open doors to new career opportunities and even create pathways to academic positions, such as serving as a professor's assistant.

- How do you plan to apply the knowledge and international experience you will gain at INHA University after returning to Azerbaijan?

- After completing my education, I intend to build my career in Azerbaijan. As an electronics engineer, I plan to apply the knowledge and experience I will gain in robotics, embedded systems, and electronics to contribute to the country's technological development. I believe electronics engineers play a vital role in advancing intelligent systems, renewable energy solutions, and the defense industry. My goal is to use the knowledge and practical experience acquired in the Republic of Korea to support the development of innovative projects and contribute to the continued progress of Azerbaijan's engineering and technology sectors.
