BEU Student Win Third Place at International Competition

Nazrin Hamidova, a first-year student in the Mechanical Engineering program at the Faculty of Engineering of Baku Engineering University (BEU), has been awarded third place at the "Falling Walls Lab Azerbaijan" international competition.

The competition was held in Baku for the second time, jointly organized by Azerbaijan Technical University and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Nazrin Hamidova presented her SRAF (Sustainable Runway Air Filtration) project, titled "Breaking the Wall of Runway Emissions." The project proposes the capture and neutralization of harmful gases - such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) — generated at airport runways at the source, through microwave desorption technology.

The project is aimed at developing more environmentally sustainable aviation solutions. Work is currently planned to continue in the direction of refining and practically implementing the project.

It should be noted that "Falling Walls Lab" is an international innovation platform held in more than 100 countries worldwide. The competition provides young researchers and innovators with the opportunity to present their scientific ideas and projects to an international jury and audience in a three-minute presentation format.
