BEU Delegation Explore Historical and Cultural Heritage within Summer School Program in China
July 13, 2026
Students of Baku Engineering University (BEU) have participated in culture and history-oriented events organized within the framework of the "International Summer School on Smart Cities" program at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) of the People's Republic of China.
The students attended a masterclass in Xuanzi painting, one of the traditional decorative and applied art forms of China. During the session, they familiarized themselves with the characteristics of ancient Chinese ornamental art, color harmony, and the techniques for creating symbolic patterns, and prepared their own handcrafted works under the guidance of experienced masters.
Within the cultural program, BEU students also visited the Drum Tower and Bell Tower complex, one of Beijing's historic architectural monuments. Built during the Yuan Dynasty, these historic structures played an important role over the centuries in determining official time and regulating public life in the city. During the excursion, participants gained detailed information about the urban planning structure, architectural features, and rich historical heritage of ancient Beijing.
This was followed by a visit to Nanluoguxiang, one of Beijing's most renowned historic streets. This locale, where traditional hutong residential neighborhoods have been preserved, reflects the harmonious coexistence of ancient Chinese architecture and modern urban life. During the tour, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves closely with local culture, national cuisine, examples of craftsmanship, and the daily life of the city.
The cultural program in which the students participated was one of the important components enriching the educational process of the international summer school. The historical and cultural excursions and applied creative sessions not only broadened students' knowledge of Chinese culture, architecture, and urban planning traditions, but also contributed to the development of their communication and collaboration skills in different cultural environments, and to the strengthening of mutual understanding and experience-sharing among participants from various countries.
It should be noted that, within the framework of cooperation between BEU and BUCEA, a delegation of the university's faculty members and students is currently on a visit to Beijing to participate in a short-term academic exchange program.
