Winners of International Climate Hackathon Awarded at BEU

A meeting was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) with the participants of the hackathon held within the framework of the "Building Cooperation to Respond to the Global Climate Crisis" agreement signed with the Climate Crisis Response Project Group of INHA University of the Republic of Korea.

At the meeting, it was noted that the first hackathon was organized last year in accordance with the agreement. A BEU student who was among the winners in the project's previous stage traveled to South Korea in May of this year and took part in ecological training sessions.

In this year's hackathon, 4 teams made up of Korean and Azerbaijani students were formed. Each team consisted of three members - 1 Korean student, 1 BEU student, and 1 student from Azerbaijan University of Languages (ADU). The teams developed joint projects related to climate change. A presentation of the projects was held at the end. The most successful projects were determined by a jury that also included faculty members from INHA University and ADU.

Greeting the teachers and students taking part in the competition on behalf of BEU's Rector, the university's Vice-Rector for International Relations, Atraba Gul, emphasized the special significance of the cooperation between BEU and INHA University, which has continued successfully for 6 years, and of the dual-degree program. She noted that, taking into account the program's successful results, its implementation period has been extended until 2030 by President Ilham Aliyev's Order "On Additional Measures Related to Increasing the International Competitiveness of the Higher Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan," dated July 22, 2025.

Highlighting that climate change is one of the most pressing global problems facing humanity, Atraba Gul noted that the role of scientific knowledge, innovative technologies, and international cooperation in this field is steadily growing. She emphasized that the active participation of young researchers and future engineers in combating climate change is of particular importance. The vice-rector noted that such international projects and academic exchange programs make a significant contribution to developing students' research potential, innovative mindset, multidisciplinary cooperation skills, and sense of social responsibility, as well as to their becoming closely acquainted with the academic environment of various countries.

At the end, Atraba Gul expressed her gratitude to the representatives of INHA University, the organizers of the project, and the hackathon participants.

Speaking at the event, the Korean teachers expressed their satisfaction at being at BEU again and shared their pleasant impressions of Azerbaijan and the university.

Following this, the results of the hackathon were announced, and certificates were presented to the members of the winning teams. Members of the teams awarded 1st and 2nd place within the project each received cash prizes.
