A scientific article co-authored by Rashail Ismayilov, Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Baku Engineering University (BEU), has been published in the international journal "GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites," which is indexed in the Scopus database and ranked Q1 in the Conservation category.
The article, titled "Evaluating Priorities for Enhancing Water Security and Sustainability in Azerbaijan in the Context of Climate Change Resilience," is devoted to identifying and evaluating the priority directions for water security and the sustainable management of water resources in Azerbaijan under conditions of climate change. The research is grounded in the principle of equitable and balanced management of water, land, and other related natural resources. The Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach was applied as the methodological framework, through which the impact of climate change on the country's water resources was comprehensively analyzed.
The article notes that surface water resources are increasingly diminishing as a result of changes in precipitation patterns, the reduction of snow reserves, and prolonged droughts. This in turn increases dependence on groundwater, creating serious risks such as the depletion of those resources and the deterioration of water quality. In order to address the existing challenges, the research puts forward a number of priority directions for strengthening water security.
