Yagub Piriyev graduated from the Moscow Automobile and Road Institute in 1975 with a degree in “Highway Engineering.” After graduation, he worked as the head of the Design and Survey Team at the Ministry of Automobile Roads Construction and Operation of the Republic of Azerbaijan. From 1977 to 1980, he pursued postgraduate studies at the same institute. In 1983, he earned the academic degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. Between 1981 and 1984, he worked at the institute as a junior researcher and lecturer. From 1984 to 1985, he served as a group leader and senior specialist at the “Azeryollayihə” Institute of the Ministry of Automobile Roads Construction and Operation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
From 1985 to 1992, he worked as the head of a department at the Azerbaijan University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Between 1992 and 1995, he worked as a lecturer at Atatürk University in the Republic of Turkey. From 1995 to 2013, he returned to the Azerbaijan University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, serving as head of department and dean.
From 2013 to 2014, he worked as Deputy Director of the Science and Higher Education Department at the Ministry of Education and Science, and since 2014, he has served as Deputy Chief of Staff, while also acting as the head of the Department of Science, Higher and Secondary Specialized Education.
He is the author of 1 invention, 4 normative documents, 4 textbooks, 5 teaching aids, and more than 100 scientific articles in the field of transport construction and road engineering.
Since 2004, he has been a full member of the International Transport Academy.
By decrees of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Teacher” in 2006 and the “Progress” medal in 2021.
By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated September 13, 2023, he was appointed as the Rector of Baku Engineering University.
He is married and has two children.
