Another Specialty of the Future at BEU: Admission Underway for "Software Engineering"

Starting from the 2026-2027 academic year, Baku Engineering University (BEU) is admitting students for the first time to the bachelor's-level specialty of "Software Engineering."
Established with the demands of the modern labor market in mind, this new specialty will serve to strengthen the training of highly qualified personnel in the field of software engineering in the country. The rapid development of the digital economy, the widespread application of artificial intelligence technologies, the growth of software-based services, and the digital transformation of industry have significantly increased demand for software engineers. Today, software engineers are among the leading specialists not only in the information technology sector, but also in various fields such as banking and finance, telecommunications, industry, healthcare, education, logistics, e-commerce, and public administration.
One of the most important advantages of studying this specialty at BEU is the laboratory infrastructure equipped with modern technologies. The computer and cybersecurity laboratories operating at the university provide students with practical experience aligned with real work environments. Through these opportunities, students gain practical knowledge in software development, testing, network management, cybersecurity scenario modeling, and the development of artificial intelligence applications. Laboratories equipped with modern hardware and software create favorable conditions for students to turn their theoretical knowledge into practice, develop innovative projects, and enter the labor market as competitive specialists.
The developed educational program will equip students with fundamental and practical knowledge. During their studies, students will master modern programming languages, the fundamentals of software engineering, object-oriented programming, algorithms and data structures, databases, operating systems, computer networks, web technologies, software design and architecture, DevOps methodologies, software testing and quality assurance, secure programming, mobile application development, user interface design, and software project management.
Students will also acquire knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud), software systems modeling, and modern software development tools, considered the key technologies of the future. Special attention will be given to software security, performance optimization, system architecture design, and the development of software products in line with international standards.
The curriculum of the new specialty is not limited to developing programming skills alone. One of its main goals is also to develop students' competencies expected of a modern engineer, such as analytical thinking, solving complex problems, teamwork, project management, technical documentation, professional communication, and an innovative approach.
Ultimately, the "Software Engineering" specialty, to be taught at BEU for the first time, will make a significant contribution to training engineers with international competitiveness, innovative thinking, and a deep understanding of modern technologies in the field of software, in line with the country's digital development strategy. This new specialty will open broad opportunities for young people who wish to master one of the professions of the future, meeting the demands of both Azerbaijan and the global labor market. Students studying in the new specialty will develop into highly qualified software engineers meeting the demands of the domestic and international labor markets, gaining not only programming skills but also modern competencies in artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, software architecture, and digital innovations.
