BEU Students Study Development Model of Villages around the Great Wall of China

Within the framework of the "International Summer School on Smart Cities" held at Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) of the People's Republic of China, students of Baku Engineering University (BEU) participated in a study visit to Beigou Village and the Mutianyu Great Wall area.

Within the framework of the program organized on the topic "Rural Revitalization in China and the World: Experience in Preserving Cultural Heritage at the Foot of the Great Wall of China," participants familiarized themselves with projects being implemented in China in the areas of socio-economic development of villages, preservation of cultural heritage, and promotion of sustainable tourism.

During the visit, students gained detailed information about the development model of Beigou Village, located at the foot of the Great Wall of China. It was noted that the village has in recent years transformed into an internationally recognized cultural tourism destination through the preservation of its historical heritage, ecological management, restoration of traditional architecture, and development of rural tourism. The adaptation of historic structures to contemporary functions, the enhancement of the local community's economic activity, and the application of sustainable development principles proved to be an engaging case study for participants.

BEU students also visited the Mutianyu Great Wall, one of the world's most magnificent historical and architectural monuments, familiarizing themselves closely with the history, architectural characteristics, and conservation efforts related to this unique world heritage site.

The field visit provided students with the opportunity to study the themes of smart cities and sustainable development not only in an urban context, but also in the context of innovative approaches applied in rural areas. At the same time, the program made a significant contribution to participants' familiarization with international experience in the fields of cultural heritage preservation, rural revitalization, and sustainable development.

It should be noted that, within the framework of the existing cooperation with BUCEA, a delegation of BEU faculty members and students is participating in various academic activities in Beijing as part of a short-term academic exchange program.
