April 16, 2026
A student from the Federal Republic of Somalia studying at Baku Engineering University (BEU) has shared his impressions of Azerbaijan and its education system in a feature story produced by Azerbaijan State Television (AzTV).
In the AzTV feature titled "Why Do Young People from Foreign Countries Choose Azerbaijan," it was reported that the opportunities for students from various countries to study at Azerbaijani higher education institutions are expanding within the framework of the Intergovernmental Scholarship Program. It was noted that the number of international students studying in our country, including young people from Somalia, is on the rise.
According to Shafie Mohamud Nageye, a Somali citizen and BEU student majoring in Information Systems in Management, who appeared in the feature, he researched various countries when choosing a higher education institution and considered Azerbaijan more suitable due to the opportunities it offers. He attributed his choice of the information technology field to the rapid development of this sector in Azerbaijan.
Shafie Mohamud Nageye, who is studying under the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant Program, stated that the education system at BEU has met his expectations: "The faculty is of a high standard, and the team is very welcoming. Overall, Azerbaijanis are helpful and hospitable people."
While noting that he initially experienced certain difficulties with the Azerbaijani language, he emphasized that he is currently learning the language and communicating freely: "This is one of my greatest achievements. Long live Azerbaijan!"
