Dual Degree Program Students Praise Education in China

In line with the dual degree program implemented between Baku Engineering University (BEU) and Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), third-year students majoring in Computer Engineering, Murad Mirzayev and Shafa Eyvazli, as well as Chemical Engineering student Laman Mastanova, who are continuing their studies in China, have shared their impressions.

Murad Mirzayev stated that studying in China offers a very different and interesting academic environment for him. According to him, the university environment at BUCT is highly organized and student-oriented. Campus life, libraries, laboratories and the overall conditions created motivate students both to study and to work on self-development. Daily life is also comfortable, as transportation, security and general living conditions are well organized at a high level. He added that living in a different culture provides a new perspective: “Discipline and responsibility are more prominent in Chinese society, and this is clearly felt in student life as well. During my time here, I believe I have learned a great deal both academically and personally.”

Laman Mastanova also expressed satisfaction with the teaching process in China. She noted that instructors explain topics in a simple and clear manner, while significant emphasis is placed on practical knowledge. Laboratory classes are particularly memorable, with everything organized systematically and in accordance with safety regulations. This helps students gain a deeper understanding of their field of study: “The examination session was easier than I expected. The assignments and explanations provided throughout the courses allow us to prepare well for exams. Overall, I am satisfied with the education process and believe that this experience will make a major contribution to my future plans.”

Shafa Eyvazli emphasized that the attitude toward international students at the university, especially those from Azerbaijan, is very warm and sincere. Getting acquainted with students from different countries, communicating and closely experiencing diverse cultures is highly valuable and broadens one’s worldview. She noted: “There are also plenty of extracurricular activities, and social and cultural events are frequently held on campus. This helps ensure efficient use of free time alongside studies. I did not feel alone here and adapted quickly.”

Currently in Azerbaijan due to the winter break, the students also met with the leadership of BEU. During the meeting, discussions were held on the teaching process at BUCT, semester examination results and the students’ overall academic performance. The students reported that they had successfully completed their exams and were satisfied with the education process, highlighting the high standard of organization of education and daily life in China, as well as the favorable university environment. Emphasizing that the high level of knowledge and skills acquired at BEU plays an important role in the successful continuation of their studies, the students also expressed their gratitude to the university leadership for the continuous support provided to them.

It should be noted that the implementation of the dual degree program between BEU and BUCT at the bachelor’s level in the fields of Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering began last year. Currently, 12 students are pursuing their studies in China under the program. In January of this year, an agreement was signed between the two universities to implement dual degree programs in three additional fields — Chemistry, Biotechnology and Business Administration. According to the agreements, students who successfully complete the first and second years and pass the relevant procedures will continue their studies in the third and fourth years at BUCT and receive two diplomas.
