BEU Becomes Official Partner of "NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026"
October 1, 2026
Baku Engineering University (BEU) will serve as one of the main official partners for Azerbaijan in the "NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026" international hackathon ( https://www.spaceappschallenge.org/2026/local-events/baku/).
"NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026," during which innovative solutions to real-world problems related to Earth and space are developed using open data from NASA and partner space agencies, will be held in person on November 14–15.
As part of the hackathon, participants will work in teams to develop a project based on one of the official challenges prepared by specialists from NASA and partner space agencies, benefit from mentor support, and ultimately present their work to a local panel of judges.
The event features challenges covering various fields, including programming, artificial intelligence, data analysis and visualization, engineering, Earth sciences, climate, ecology, agriculture, astrophysics, space research, design, education, and scientific storytelling. The hackathon promotes the joint activity of participants with diverse knowledge and skills in multidisciplinary teams.
Participation in the hackathon is free of charge. Projects selected by the panel of judges at the local stage and meeting the official requirements will be submitted to the global evaluation stage of the "NASA Space Apps Challenge" with "Global Nominee" status.
Within the framework of the partnership, BEU will support informing and encouraging students and young people to participate in the hackathon, bringing together students from various specialties in teams, as well as involving them as volunteers in the event's organizational processes. The university also plans to hold informational meetings and presentations about the hackathon, as well as carry out communication activities to promote the event.
As part of the cooperation, BEU students will have the opportunity to work on real-world problems, apply their knowledge and skills in practical projects, develop teamwork and problem-solving skills, and present their projects on an international platform.
It should be noted that Amil Zeynalli, a student majoring in "Computer Engineering" at BEU, was selected as the local coordinator for Azerbaijan of the "NASA Space Apps Challenge" for 2026. He leads the organization of the hackathon in Azerbaijan, the engagement of participants, and the formation of the local community.
