BEU Graduate to Continue Her Research on Early Diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease in Edinburgh

Fatimayi Zahra Seyfiyeva, a graduate of Baku Engineering University (BEU), has become a winner of the "State Program for Youth Education at Prestigious Higher Education Institutions of Foreign Countries for 2022-2028" for the 2026-2027 academic year. She will pursue doctoral studies in "Bioanalytical Chemistry" at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.
Fatimayi-Zahra Seyfiyeva studied chemistry in English at BEU from 2018 to 2023. Having successfully graduated from the university, she was admitted to master's programs at 7 prestigious universities around the world. She pursued her master's studies at the University of Edinburgh within the framework of the State Program and is currently completing her studies.
Alongside her master's studies, she is taking part in a three-month research program at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR) at the University of Edinburgh. There, she conducts research on the development of nanoelectrode-based biosensors for the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Her main goal during her doctoral studies is to further develop the research she conducted at the master's level on the design and surface modification of nanoelectrodes.
The BEU graduate stated that her goal is to develop nanoelectrode-based biosensor platforms that can be used in the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and to study their application in living cells.
"If our research yields successful results, we plan to expand the application of this technology to research related to other diseases, including cancer. At the same time, together with my academic supervisor, we aim to conduct research in the future on the development of wearable biosensors," she noted.
Fatimayi Zahra Seyfiyeva said that after completing her doctoral studies, she wants to bring the knowledge and experience she gains abroad back to Azerbaijan and contribute to the development of this field in the country: "Baku Engineering University played a major role in my orientation toward this field and in my academic development. In the future, I hope to take part in both research and teaching activities at the university, and to share the knowledge and experience I have gained with young people interested in this field. Alongside this, I have set myself the goal of carrying out projects together with our university's teachers and other researchers, building new partnerships, and contributing to the development of the field of biosensors in our country. Justifying the trust placed in me, turning what I have learned into beneficial results, and adding value to Azerbaijani science in the future are among my greatest goals."
