Bicycle Infrastructure Put into Operation at BEU Campus

Bicycle lanes and corresponding parking facilities have been created at the Baku Engineering University (BEU) campus to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase the use of environmentally friendly transportation. At the same time, bicycles made available by "Apar Ride" LLC have been provided for the use of students and staff on the campus territory.

The opening ceremony held in this regard was attended by BEU administration, faculty, staff and students, as well as representatives of "Apar Ride" LLC.

Speaking at the event, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev stated that the separation of pedestrian and bicycle paths on the university territory was implemented in accordance with the institution's "Green Campus" concept, as well as the 3rd (Good Health and Well-being) and 13th (Climate Action) directions of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Rector emphasized the social significance of the project related to environmental protection, the necessity of promoting a healthy lifestyle, creating appropriate infrastructure for micromobility vehicles, and ensuring the accessibility of bicycle use. It was added that comfortable, economical micromobile transportation that promotes a healthy lifestyle has become widespread worldwide, and against the background of environmental issues gaining global relevance, the formation of bicycle culture has begun to acquire special importance in our country as well. Touching upon the work carried out in this direction, Yagub Piriyev noted that roads between academic buildings at the university have been asphalted for comfortable and safe movement, which has also created favorable conditions for using bicycles as well as other micromobile transportation vehicles. The Rector brought to attention that environmental initiatives at BEU will continue in the future and the use of micromobile vehicles will be expanded.

"Apar Ride" LLC Director Ali Ahmadli spoke and drew attention to the work carried out by the company for the use of micromobile transportation vehicles in the capital, and stated that such projects implemented at BEU make an important contribution to the formation of bicycle culture as well as the promotion of environmental initiatives.
