March 25, 2026
Baku Engineering University (BEU) has been represented for the first time in the "QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026," published by Quacquarelli Symonds, one of the most prestigious institutions in the field of international higher education rankings.
Marking a significant achievement, BEU has been included in the rankings in two subject categories. Achieving the highest result in the field of Petroleum Engineering (ranked in the 151–175 band), BEU has also secured a strong position in the Economics & Econometrics subject ranking (ranked in the 551–700 band). It is worth noting that in the field of Petroleum Engineering, BEU ranks third among universities in the country.
BEU's inclusion in QS's subject-based ranking of the world's best universities once again demonstrates the growing international competitiveness of the institution and its establishment of a quality education and research environment in its selected subject areas. This significant achievement is yet another successful outcome of the work carried out in line with the key targets set out in the university's Strategic Development Plan.
The QS Subject Rankings are compiled by comprehensively taking into account a number of key indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, the H-index, and the international research collaboration index.
In recent years, BEU has taken consistent and purposeful steps in the aforementioned areas. Systematic efforts have been made particularly in expanding international relations, implementing dual degree programs with foreign universities, integrating into global academic networks, developing industry partnerships, strengthening ties with the labor market and increasing graduate employment rates, and applying modern teaching methods. In addition, the achievement of international accreditation for relevant programs at BEU, the stimulation of research activity, the increase in the number of publications and citations in Scopus-indexed journals, and the establishment of a modern research infrastructure have all created conditions for progress across QS ranking indicators. It is also worth highlighting that BEU has been placed among the top 1,000 universities worldwide and the top 400 in Europe in the QS Quacquarelli Symonds rankings. Furthermore, BEU has advanced 11 places in the QS West Asia University Rankings, securing 23rd place in the region.
These indicators, along with BEU's first-time inclusion in the "QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026," confirm that the sustained reforms implemented at the university over the past two years are yielding tangible results.
It should be noted that the "QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026" is a prestigious ranking that orders the world's leading higher education institutions across various subject areas. The ranking, which enables international comparison of universities' academic and research performance, evaluates nearly 1,900 higher education institutions from more than 100 countries worldwide and over 21,000 academic programs. Covering 5 broad subject areas and 55 disciplines, the ranking features seven Azerbaijani universities represented across 22 subject areas for the first time.
