Collaboration Between BEU and Members of the World Association of Azerbaijani Scientists Discussed

An online meeting was held between Baku Engineering University (BEU) and members of the World Association of Azerbaijani Scientists (WAAS). The meeting focused on discussing opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijani scientists working in various countries and the university.

Opening the event with welcoming remarks, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev stated that state programs implemented under the relevant decrees of President Ilham Aliyev play a significant role in integrating young people educated abroad into global science, and that the emerging strong middle generation further enhances our country's intellectual potential. Noting that such meetings serve as an important platform for strengthening scientific ties and sharing accumulated expertise, the Rector provided extensive information on BEU's achievements and development directions in recent years. He noted that the university's internationalization policy is being pursued consistently and that cooperation with international partners is being expanded. Joint dual-degree programs with universities in South Korea and China are being successfully implemented. Yaqub Piriyev also spoke about efforts undertaken in the area of international accreditation of degree programs, steps taken to expand scientific research, as well as the more than twofold increase in both the number and geographic diversity of international students enrolled at BEU. Emphasizing the steps taken to strengthen the academic staff, the Rector highlighted the particular significance of cooperation with Azerbaijani scientists working abroad and the value of their expertise for teaching and research activities.

WAAS Board Chairman, the first Azerbaijani scientist to receive the Humboldt Award, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Masud Afandiyev, stressed in his remarks the importance of cooperation between BEU and Azerbaijani scientists living abroad. He noted that close ties with scientists working in various countries can make a significant contribution to strengthening scientific potential. He underscored the importance of such meetings for the formation of new projects and the enhancement of knowledge exchange, and outlined potential areas of collaboration.

Following addresses by Azerbaijani scientists working in Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, France, Russia, and other countries, discussions were held on the involvement of WAAS-affiliated scholars in BEU's teaching process, the organization of master classes for students, the conduct of joint scientific research, as well as cooperation with BEU's academic journals. Opportunities for developing broad-based cooperation with scientists living abroad in the fields of information technology, economics, biotechnology, chemistry, and engineering were also reviewed, and various proposals were put forward.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a preliminary agreement on future cooperation was reached, and coordinators were appointed by both sides to strengthen ongoing ties.
