New Master's Specialization in Applied Physics at BEU

Starting from the new academic year, master's level training in the "Applied Physics - Physics of Semiconductors and Dielectrics" specialization within the "Physics" specialty will be offered at Baku Engineering University (BEU). The primary objective of this newly opened specialization at the Faculty of Engineering is to train highly qualified specialists with in-depth knowledge of the physical properties of semiconductor and dielectric materials, capable of meeting modern requirements in the research, design, and application of such materials, and possessing the ability to conduct scientific research.
The teaching of this specialty serves the training of highly qualified personnel for the fields of electronics, microelectronics, telecommunications, nanotechnology, optoelectronics, the defense industry, as well as scientific and educational institutions. Graduates of this specialty will not only contribute to the development of the innovation and high technology sector in the country, but will also be able to work in various positions at research institutes and educational institutions, as well as specialists in the development and operation of semiconductor materials, semiconductor electronic and quantum electronic devices, and dielectric sensors.
In the initial phase of the curriculum, students will be taught fundamental theoretical knowledge on the growth of semiconductor crystals, the physicochemical analysis of materials, the formation of nanostructures for the deposition of thin films, the characteristics of non-equilibrium and optical phenomena in semiconductors, and their practical application areas. In the subsequent phase, master's students will acquire practical knowledge in the determination of the parameters of semiconductor materials, the practical application areas of sensors and detectors based on semiconductor materials, the application of dielectrics in semiconductor electronics, the technology of manufacturing semiconductor light sources and receivers, and their applications in everyday life, industry, agrotechnology, and medicine.
Since the "Applied Physics - Physics of Semiconductors and Dielectrics" specialization is predominantly experimentally oriented, priority will be given to the development of practical skills and competencies alongside theoretical knowledge in shaping master's students as specialists meeting modern requirements. For this purpose, the facilities of the modern teaching and research laboratories operating on the university's premises will be extensively utilized.
Specialist subjects to be taught within the specialization include research methods, technology for the production of semiconductor materials and structures, the electron theory of semiconductors and dielectrics, thin films and nanostructures, research analytics, thermoelectric and galvanomagnetic phenomena in semiconductors, radiation processes in semiconductors, optical and photoelectric phenomena in semiconductors, semiconductor devices and their application possibilities, semiconductor converters, composite materials and nanotechnology, and quantum electronic systems and their applications.
At the conclusion of the program, master's students will prepare and defend their master's theses by linking the theoretical knowledge they have acquired with practical activities. This approach will enable them to pursue careers as researchers, university lecturers, or applied physics specialists in industrial enterprises.
