Scientific-Practical Seminar on "Our Cities and Architectural Monuments" Held at BEU

A scientific-practical seminar titled "Our Cities and Architectural Monuments" has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) under the auspices of the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture", organised by the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Pedagogy.
The seminar was attended by teachers and pupils of the Heydar Aliyev Modern Education Complex, as well as academic staff and students of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction at BEU.
Opening the event with introductory remarks, Department Head Tarana Hajiyeva spoke on the significance of 2026 being declared the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture" in our country. She noted that this decision presents important imperatives in terms of preserving, studying, and advancing Azerbaijan's national architectural heritage through contemporary approaches. Emphasising that our country possesses rich urban planning and architectural traditions, she drew attention to the importance of studying the historical and scientific etymology of the names of ancient cities and architectural monuments.
Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction Nizami Ahmadov then addressed the guests, providing detailed information about the faculty. It was stated that the faculty trains specialists equipped with analytical thinking, the ability to work with innovative technologies, and the capacity to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to real-world problems. It was noted that the fields of architecture and urban planning, as well as construction engineering, represent a synthesis of creativity and engineering approach, and that students pursuing education in these fields must possess both creative and technical thinking capabilities.
Nizami Ahmadov also noted that in connection with the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in our country in May of this year, various exhibitions, seminars, and collaborative projects are being organised at the faculty.
At the event, Head of the Department of Design Vaqif Mammadov and lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Construction Durdana Aslanzade delivered addresses providing information on Azerbaijan's architects, cities, and architectural monuments.
During the practical segment of the seminar, Associate Professor of the department Emin Agayev presented pupils and students with questions relating to the names of our cities, architects, and architectural monuments. The questions were answered by both pupils and students.
As part of the event, teachers and pupils of the Modern Education Complex also familiarised themselves with BEU's Technopark, research laboratories, and an exhibition of handcrafted works by students of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction.
