Awareness Event on Organ Donation Held at BEU

An event dedicated to the topic of organ donation was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) by the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation, operating under the Ministry of Health.
The aim of the event was to raise public awareness about organ donation and to promote a responsible and humanitarian approach in this field.
Delivering the opening remarks, BEU Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations Bayram Huseynzade emphasized the relevance of organ donation both globally and in our country, as well as the vital role it plays in saving human lives. He noted that the development of the healthcare system in our country, the introduction of modern medical technologies, and the overall improvement in the quality of medical services have created significant opportunities for the advancement of critically important fields such as organ donation and transplantation. The Vice-Rector underscored the importance of raising public awareness for the further development of this field, as well as the significance of organizing such meetings on a systematic basis.
Gunay Abbasova, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of the Ministry of Health's Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation, spoke in her address about the reforms carried out in the healthcare sector in our country and the development of the organ donation system. She also drew attention to the existing legislative framework and international experience in this field, and noted the importance of raising social responsibility in society and fostering the right approach through awareness efforts. Providing information on the steps required to become a donor, as well as the concept of brain death and its medico-legal criteria, Gunay Abbasova stated that organ donation is not only a medically significant act but also one of high moral value, and that each donor's decision can save the lives of several people.
Subsequently, Mehriban Aliyeva, a physician-coordinator at the institution, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the subject. The presentation provided detailed information on the significance of organ donation, the existing procedures for becoming a donor, state policy implemented in this area, and international experience. It was noted that a number of countries have achieved successful results in the field of organ transplantation, and that Azerbaijan has also made positive strides in this direction in recent years.
During the presentation, common misconceptions in society regarding organ donation were also addressed, the humanitarian and moral aspects of organ donation were explained, and it was highlighted that the entire process is carried out in a fully transparent manner and in compliance with the law.
Numerous questions from students were answered during the interactive event.
At the conclusion of the event, gifts were presented by the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation to the students who asked the best questions.
