Scientific Seminar on Multiculturalism and National-Moral Values Held at BEU
March 12, 2026
A scientific seminar titled "Azerbaijan's National and Moral Values in the Light of Multiculturalism" has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
The seminar aimed to discuss the scientific and social aspects of the concept of multiculturalism and to draw attention to issues related to the preservation and promotion of Azerbaijan's national and moral values.
The seminar was opened with an introductory address by Humeyre Mustafayeva, Head of the General Disciplines Department. Speaking about the state policy implemented in the country to preserve and develop multicultural traditions, the department head emphasized that multiculturalism is a significant value for modern societies and noted the importance of different cultures coexisting in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. She also stressed that the preservation of national and moral values becomes increasingly relevant against the backdrop of the rapid development of technology and the emergence of new challenges such as artificial intelligence. She added that although globalization intensifies the mutual influence of different cultures, this process must be carried out in parallel with the preservation of national identity and values.
Subsequently, Rashad Ilyasov, Head of the Analytics Department at the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre, delivered a comprehensive report on the topic. He provided detailed information on the essence of the concept of multiculturalism and the principles of multiculturalism and coexistence of diverse cultures. The department head stated that multiculturalism is not merely a way of life, but also one of the key directions of state policy in Azerbaijan and a number of other countries. Touching upon the principle of tolerance, the speaker noted that multiculturalism enables different peoples and cultures to preserve their identities while living within society in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation. The address also featured reflections on the current state of multiculturalism in the world and the experience of various countries in this field.
Gafar Ojagly, Associate Professor at the General Disciplines Department of BEU, addressed in his report the relationship between multiculturalism and national and moral values. He noted that the diversity present in every society is an indicator of that society's intellectual and cultural richness. He stated that, alongside showing respect for different values, it is also of great importance to preserve our own national and moral values. In the modern era, characterized by the rapid advancement of science and technology, the mutual influence of cultures is a natural process; however, this does not imply the loss of national values. Gafar Ojagly cited concrete examples of nations around the world that have advanced in science and technology while simultaneously preserving their own values. The report also highlighted that Azerbaijan has historically been a space where diverse cultures converge, and that our people have succeeded in safeguarding their beliefs and values throughout the ages.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants' questions on the topic were answered, and the significance of such scholarly discussions in promoting the ideas of multiculturalism was underscored.
