BEU Hosts Joint Seminar with AERA for Students

A seminar under the "Energy Talks" project has been organized at Baku Engineering University (BEU) in cooperation with the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA).

The seminar was attended by BEU faculty members, students majoring in "Electrical and Electronics Engineering" and "Energy Engineering," postgraduate students, as well as representatives of AERA.

BEU Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Affairs Agasi Malikov, delivering the opening address, emphasized the critical importance of the energy sector in the country's economic development and in ensuring a sustainable future. It was noted that reforms carried out in the energy sector, the introduction of new technologies, and work undertaken in the development of renewable energy sources further underscore the importance of training qualified professionals in this field. The Vice-Rector described the seminar as a valuable platform for expanding students' knowledge of existing challenges, opportunities, and prospects in the energy sector, and expressed confidence that the discussions and presentations would prove beneficial and contribute to the generation of new ideas.

Zeynab Kazimova, Head of the Press Sector at AERA, then provided information on the seminars and awareness-raising projects organized by the Agency for students of higher education institutions. It was noted that such meetings serve to increase students' awareness of state policy in the energy sector, regulatory mechanisms, and innovations being implemented across the sector.

At the seminar, presentations were delivered by Vusala Latifova, Leading Specialist of the State Programs and Strategic Development Department at AERA, on "The Country's Energy Policy from a Regulatory Perspective"; by Matin Shikhiyev, Specialist of the Energy Liberalization Department, on "An Overview of the Renewable Energy Sector"; and by Shahin Maharramli, Deputy Director of the Energy Efficiency Department and Head of the Project Management Sector, on "The Activities of the Energy Efficiency Fund."

The presentations covered in detail the state's energy policy, reforms being carried out in the energy sector, the Agency's areas of activity, and its role in the implementation of state regulation and oversight. Information was also provided on projects being implemented to develop renewable energy sources and enhance energy efficiency, including the growing demand for renewable energy, the country's potential in this area, and measures being taken to improve energy efficiency.
