Open Classes on March 31 Genocide Held at BEU

A series of open classes were organized for students at Baku Engineering University (BEU) in connection with March 31 – Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.

The open classes, conducted by Head of the Department of General Subjects Humeyra Mustafayeva, Associate Professor Gafar Ojaqli, senior lecturers Elnur Najiyov and Yalchin Zeynalov, and lecturer Ramiz Najafli, provided a detailed explanation of the historical causes and severe consequences of the massacres that took place in 1918. It was stated that these events were acts of mass violence deliberately carried out against the Azerbaijani people. In March–April 1918, thousands of peaceful Azerbaijanis were brutally killed by Armenian armed groups in the city of Baku and various regions of Azerbaijan. Women, children, and the elderly were mercilessly murdered, settlements were razed to the ground, and the material and spiritual heritage of the people was destroyed.

Based on archival materials and historical facts, information about the committed atrocities was presented during the speeches. At the same time, the importance of preserving these events in national memory and conveying them to future generations was emphasized. The instructors noted that studying these tragic pages of history plays an important role in fostering patriotism among young people.

During the open classes, extensive discussions were held on the topic, and students’ questions were answered.
