BEU Signs Dual Degree Program Agreement with Another Leading Chinese University
January 9, 2026
Baku Engineering University (BEU) continues to expand its cooperation with the People's Republic of China in the field of higher education. The university has signed an agreement on another Dual Degree Program (DDP) with Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA), one of the leading higher education institutions of that country.
Within the framework of the agreement, joint educational programs at the master's level will be implemented based on two models in the fields of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Information Technologies, and Mechanical Engineering. Students selected according to established criteria for the program will obtain master's degrees from both universities upon completion of their studies.
BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev evaluated the agreement not only as an expansion of cooperation between two higher education institutions, but also as a clear example of the existing friendship and strategic partnership relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China in the field of education. Emphasizing that the rich experience of Chinese higher education institutions is valuable for BEU, the rector assessed BUCEA's active initiative in establishing the Belt and Road Architecture Universities International Consortium (BRAUIC) as a solid foundation for the participation of higher education institutions in future joint projects. Yagub Piriyev also noted that 2026 has been declared the "Year of Architecture and Urban Planning" in Azerbaijan by the respective Decree of President Ilham Aliyev, and that the Thirteenth session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) will be held in Baku this year, emphasizing that against the backdrop of these important events, effective cooperation between universities is particularly relevant and plays the role of an important intellectual bridge between higher education and the global urban planning agenda.
At the end of his speech, the rector stated that the signed agreement opens wide opportunities for students in terms of receiving education in a high-quality academic environment and gaining international experience, while also laying a solid foundation for long-term, reliable and effective cooperation between the two universities.
BUCEA Rector Zhang Dayu evaluated the cooperation established with BEU as an important contribution to the development of relations in the field of higher education between Azerbaijan and China. Emphasizing that the signed DDP agreement serves to enhance the international competitiveness of young specialists, he stressed that the jointly implemented programs will open wide perspectives in terms of promoting innovative approaches in the fields of architecture, engineering and technology. The rector also highlighted the successful participation of the BEU delegation in the "2025 International Smart Cities and Silk Road Youth Synergy Summer School" organized by BUCEA last year and expressed confidence that the cooperation will expand further.
Within the framework of the signing, the implementation mechanisms of joint educational programs were discussed between the parties, and an exchange of ideas was conducted regarding future scientific and academic projects.
