A scientific article co-authored by Rakib Afandiyev, head of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Baku Engineering University (BEU), has been published in a high-impact-factor, Q1 category international journal.

The article, titled "On a Non-Self-Adjoint Sturm–Liouville Problem: Spectral and Inverse Analysis," appeared in the journal Boundary Value Problems (SpringerOpen), which is indexed in the Scopus international scientific database. The journal is ranked in the Q1 quartile in the "Algebra and Number Theory" category, and the article was published in Open Access format.

The study examines a non-self-adjoint Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem with a complex-valued potential. The article constructs fundamental solutions, determines the characteristic function, and analyzes the discrete spectrum. Based on the continuation of the potential onto the positive half-axis, Jost-type solutions are introduced, and their corresponding spectral coefficients are determined. In addition, the Green's function and the resolvent operator are examined, and the compactness and discreteness of the spectrum are theoretically substantiated.

The results of the study carry significant scientific importance for the spectral theory of non-self-adjoint differential operators and the study of inverse problems, and form a theoretical basis for future research in this field.
