BEU and Inha University sign memorandum of understanding

 

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Baku Engineering University (BEU) and Inha University of South Korea. Rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov said that in the last two days, extensive discussions were held with the delegation led by the Dean of the Global Education Project Group of Inha University, Professor Kiyon Choh. Nijat Mammadli, head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education, also took part in the discussions. The Rector said that Azerbaijan and Korea had fruitful cooperation in many areas, including education. Noting that special attention was paid to the development of international relations of BEU, H.Mammadov spoke about cooperation with the world's leading universities, and stressed the importance of cooperation with Inha University. Emphasizing that the "State Program on Increasing the International Competitiveness of the Azerbaijani Higher Education System for 2019-2023" was approved by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev, H.Mammadov said the document paid special attention to the establishment of dual degree programs. The rector said that the implementation of the dual degree program with Inha University would make an additional contribution to the development of education at both universities.

Kiyon Choh and other members of the delegation shared extensive information about the activities of the University, relevant faculties and departments they represent. It was noted that the University was one of the leading universities in South Korea in the fields of engineering, business administration, medicine and social sciences. Inha University is a higher education institution that conducts various researches, has relations with many prestigious higher education institutions of the world and has more than 20,000 students. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the field of dual degree program, the guests expressed their acquaintance with the activities of BEU, the specialties taught, the modern material and technical base created here, the laboratories, and their positive impressions.

Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education Nijat Mammadli informed about the "State Program on increasing the international competitiveness of the Azerbaijani higher education system for 2019-2023". He noted that the document envisaged two main directions. Saying  that the first direction was to finance doctoral studies abroad for the country's citizens, the head of the department added that Azerbaijani students would be able to apply to this program after being admitted to prestigious universities around the world. He noted that another important direction was the establishment of dual degree programs, and noted the work planned in this regard. The ministry official highly appreciated the implementation of the dual degree program between BEU, one of the leading universities in Azerbaijan in the field of engineering, and Inha University, and expressed his confidence that this program would be successful. N.Mammadli also spoke about the rules of the dual degree program, as well as the exchange of faculty.

Later, a memorandum of understanding was signed between BEU and Inha University, as well as questions about teacher-student exchange between the two universities and joint projects were answered. It was noted that the parties intend to implement a dual degree program in Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. In general, the memorandum will increase international educational opportunities for students of the two universities, professional development for faculty and staff, as well as research opportunities, and provide further development of interdepartmental relations. According to the document, the parties will implement joint educational projects such as students, faculty, exchange of scientific materials, dual degree program.
