About Department

The Department of General Subjects has been operating at BMU since 2016. The department staff includes 1 professor, 5 associate professors, 2 senior lecturers, 1 lecturer, and 1 senior laboratory assistant.

At the undergraduate level, the following subjects are taught across faculties: Azerbaijani History, Civil Defense, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, Introduction to Multiculturalism, Ethics, and Aesthetics. At the master’s level, Azerbaijani Multiculturalism and Philosophy are taught.

The Azerbaijani History course covers the history, territory, population, ethnic composition, linguistic affiliation, and rich culture of our homeland, the formation and development of the Azerbaijani people, the emergence of early statehood traditions, the restoration of state independence, the preservation of territorial integrity, and the development of the sovereign Republic of Azerbaijan in the international relations system, giving it significant historical importance.

The Civil Defense course teaches young people how to behave in emergency situations. The Sociology course helps students study the development of society, daily social interactions, the influence of information tools, and contemporary socio-cultural and socio-economic issues. The Philosophy course contributes to the formation of students’ general worldview. Political Science instruction develops students’ logical thinking and political understanding regarding modern societal processes. The Introduction to Multiculturalism course covers the history of multiculturalism as the official political model of the Republic of Azerbaijan and policies aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue. Staff members of the Department of General Subjects regularly organize scientific seminars, book presentations, meetings, round tables, and other events.
