Head of Department
The department consists of a staff of 42 people, including 1 head, 5 associate professors, 8 PhD holders in philosophy, 1 Doctor of Science, 18 senior lecturers, 16 lecturers, 2 senior laboratory assistants, and 1 laboratory assistant.
The department is part of the Faculty of Information and Computer Technologies at Baku Engineering University (BMU). In its activities, the department is guided by relevant laws, decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, decisions and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, other legislative acts, normative acts of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, orders and decrees of the Minister of Education (hereinafter – the Minister), decisions of the Ministry’s Collegium, decisions of the Scientific Council of Baku Engineering University, and the “Charter of Baku Engineering University.” While performing its duties and exercising its rights, the department operates in coordination with other structural units of the university.
The purpose of the Foreign Languages Department is to carry out teaching, methodological, scientific-research, and scientific-pedagogical work based on the content and minimum requirements of state education programs.
For the assigned specialties, the department prepares curricula, annual teaching plans, class schedules, and other relevant documents. It provides teaching and methodological materials (programs, textbooks, manuals, and methodological guides) for the subjects taught. Seminar and conference topics within the department’s scope are determined, and collaboration is carried out with other higher education institutions, research institutes, enterprises, and organizations on these topics. Research and analysis are conducted in its field of activity, analytical materials are prepared, relevant proposals are made, and participation in projects, conferences, and seminars is ensured.
The department’s teaching staff is regularly encouraged to participate in national and international scientific events (conferences, symposiums, etc.). Courses included in the curricula for different education levels (such as Business and Academic Communication in English – 1, 2, 3 [for academic purposes]) are conducted at a high scientific-theoretical level through seminars and practical classes. To improve the quality of education, curricula are developed in accordance with international standards and submitted for approval as required. The department prepares and reviews textbooks, manuals, methodological recommendations and guidelines, visual aids, and other educational materials.
Overall, the Foreign Languages Department studies the advanced work practices of individual departments and teaching staff of higher education institutions in Azerbaijan and abroad and continuously improves the department’s activities.
