A celebration has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU) on December 31, marking World Azerbaijanis' Solidarity Day and New Year.
During the event, organized with the support of the "One Volunteer" student organization, the rector of the university Yaqub Piriyev recalled that the foundation of Solidarity Day, which calls for the unity of world Azerbaijanis, was laid by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He noted that the establishment of this day, rooted in the ideology of Azerbaijaniism, serves to strengthen the connection of our compatriots residing in various parts of the world with their homeland, Azerbaijan, and to preserve and pass on our national and spiritual values and traditions, which date back to ancient centuries, to future generations.
The rector emphasized that Solidarity Day and New Year's celebrations are becoming more magnificent and filled with high spirits every year, owing to the glorious victory achieved under the leadership of Victorious Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev during the 44-day Patriotic War.
Yaqub Piriyev pointed out that the political strategy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev had made 2023 a year full of success for the country, with new historical achievements. He highlighted the complete restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty, the acceleration of the Great Return to Karabakh, and the dynamic development recorded in all sectors.
The rector expressed his unwavering confidence that Azerbaijan will continue to progress on the path of rapid development in 2024. He also drew attention to the fact that the upcoming presidential elections, scheduled for February 7, 2024, will be a significant political event, marking the first time that polling stations will operate across all territories of Azerbaijan, which has fully restored its sovereignty.
Yagub Piriyev stressed that there is no doubt that every Azerbaijani will stand by the country’s leader, who has brought about significant development and historic victories over the last 20 years, and called on everyone to be active in the elections. He emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev's wise policies will continue to make significant contributions to the building of a strong Azerbaijani state for decades to come.
The rector also mentioned that last year saw positive and memorable events in the country's education system, including the opening of new schools in the liberated territories and the establishment of the Karabakh University in Khankendi. He also noted that BEU was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Ministry of Science and Education for its successful performance at the end of the year.
At the end of his speech, the rector congratulated the BEU staff and students, conveying his warmest wishes and best regards.
The event then continued with an artistic program. Songs were performed by students, and various skits and dances were showcased, organized by the university's Artistic Creativity Department.
