A round table on "COP29 as a guarantor of environmental, social and economic sustainability" has been held under the joint organization of the Department of Social Sciences of Baku Engineering University (BEU) and the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ARTI).
Head of Department at ARTI Aynur Pashayeva, the moderator of the event, told the students about the reasons why Azerbaijan hosted the COP29 event, the importance of the event for our country, as well as for the world mobilizing for a green future. Directing young people's attention to environmental crises, diseases increasing as a result of climate change, and the shortening of human life, the head of the department pointed out that there was a serious need for educational measures to protect nature.
Delivering a report on "COP29: New ecological, social perspectives and opportunities for Azerbaijan" at the round table, Humeyra Mustafayeva, head of the Department of Social Sciences, gave detailed information about the international environmental event and emphasized the main goals of COP29. Noting that one of the future goals of Azerbaijan is to become a country of green growth and a clean environment, the head of the department emphasized the possibilities of our country in the production and export of green energy, as well as the renewable energy potential of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur economic regions.
Later, Mahabbat Pashayeva, chief specialist of ARTI, candidate of sciences in biology, gave a speech on the topic "The importance of COP29 for Azerbaijan in the Green World Solidarity Year and the solutions to combat climate change", focusing on the causes of environmental crises and clarifying the emerging global threats. The expert added that protecting the atmosphere first starts with the formation of ecological thinking and ecological culture.
Participating in the event, Arzu Mammadova, head of the UNEC Library Information Center spoke about the "Green Library" project launched this year at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics. She added that within this framework, research was conducted on the world's leading, modern, ecologically clean and sustainable libraries, and extensive information was presented to the public.
In the discussions held in the form of a discussion, the students expressed their views on environmental issues, highlighted the relevance of startup projects related to green energy, and expressed their interest in research in this direction.
