The opening of the first student club "Power of Words" under the department of Azerbaijani language and pedagogy and the event "Language that unites 50 million people" have been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
At the event, speaking about the purposeful activities carried out in the direction of the language policy in our country, the university's Vice-rector for social issues and public relations Bayram Huseynzada noted that various measures are being implemented for the wide application and development of the Azerbaijani language, which has received the status of the official state language.
Talking about the activities of 15 student clubs at BEU, the Vice-rector emphasized that each club serves the development and improvement of students in the field of their interest. In this regard, Bayram Huseynzada added that the newly formed "Power of the Word" club has important responsibilities and wished success to the club members.
After the speech, the chairman of the "Power of Words" student club Rustam Yusifzada, a first-year student of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, introduced the members of the club's Board of Directors, as well as its activities to the event participants. It was noted that the tasks of the club include protecting the language, which has national and moral value, ensuring the correct use of the language in the academic environment, organizing various events to improve students' speech, etc.
Head of the department of Azerbaijani language and pedagogy of BEU, doctor of philological sciences, professor Tarana Hajiyeva drew attention to the use of the Azerbaijani language in accordance with the requirements of the time in the conditions of globalization. Highlighting important points related to the comprehensive development of our language based on the ideology of Azerbaijaniism, the professor talked about issues such as educating the young generation in the spirit of love and respect for their mother tongue, the importance of strictly following the norms of the literary language, the purity, protection and enrichment of the language.
Professor Sevinj Aliyeva, director of the Monitoring Center at the State Language Commission, spoke on the topic "Our mother tongue is our national wealth". The head of the center touched upon such issues as the teaching of speech culture in higher educational institutions, the negative effects of other languages on our native language, the importance of correct application of the Azerbaijani language, the development of fluency in the native language among people, etc.
Sevinj Aliyeva highly valued the activity and general efforts of BEU in the direction of protecting the purity of the Azerbaijani language and its correct application. She wished success to the first club in this field, "The Power of the Word", and also awarded the members of the club with badges, and the club with the "Diploma of Honor".
At the end of the event, the students addressed their questions to the head of the Monitoring Center about the possibilities of expression of the Azerbaijani language and the status of its use as a state language.
