A lecture on "Heydar Aliyev and the new oil strategy of Azerbaijan" has been organized at Baku Engineering University in cooperation with the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) within the framework of "Year of Heydar Aliyev".

First, the participants of the event laid flowers in front of the bust of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev erected in the lobby of the university and paid tribute to his memory.

After that, the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was viewed.

At the event, which began with the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, the dear memory of the National Leader and our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our country was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Delivering an opening speech after the video clip dedicated to Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev noted that the initial stage of Azerbaijan's economic success was directly related to the oil strategy of the genius Heydar Aliyev. Stating that the Great Leader took important steps towards the development of the oil strategy in both the first and second stages, the rector emphasized that after Heydar Aliyev was elected as the leader of Soviet Azerbaijan in 1969, the oil industry entered the stage of dynamic development, as in all areas of socio-economic life. Moreover, he drew attention to the important measures that boosted the development of the oil industry in that period, and the work done to build a modern, strong infrastructure.

Emphasizing that independent Azerbaijan's energy projects and oil-gas strategy also went down in history in the name of the Great Leader, Yagub Piriyev touched on the processes that took place in the early 90s and said that it was the Heydar Aliyev factor that brought well-known oil companies to our country. Recalling the solemn signing of the "Contract of the Century" in 1994, the rector pointed out that the new oil strategy, which was founded as a result of Heydar Aliyev's personal influence and diplomatic skills, created the foundations for the future development of Azerbaijan. He added that the unparalleled services rendered by Heydar Aliyev, the historical steps he took for the development of the oil and gas industry ensured the realities of today's strong Azerbaijan and, as a result, the freedom of Karabakh.

The Rector emphasized that the new energy projects implemented owing to the determined and principled policy of President Ilham Aliyev, a worthy successor of the Great Leader, based on national interests, further increased the economic power and political weight of our country in the world arena. The rector also mentioned in his speech, "There is no doubt that the Great Leader's oil strategy will make a reliable contribution to the future development of Azerbaijan, the construction works in Karabakh, and the energy security of the world for a long time. "Energy projects will serve the people of Azerbaijan for the next 100 years and will be an important factor in the development of the national economy, as well as will further increase the importance of Azerbaijan".

Later, Rafig Abdullayev, a personal pensioner of the President of Azerbaijan, spoke. Noting the important measures that stimulated the development of the oil industry in Azerbaijan in the 1970s and 1980s as a result of the great work of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, the speaker emphasized that as a result of the purchase of semi-submersible floating drilling rigs of the "Shelf" type, it became possible to discover rich oil and gas fields in the deeper areas of the sea. Sharing with the event participants the negotiations he witnessed with the participants of the event regarding the signing of the "Contract of the Century" when he worked as an assistant to the president at the State Oil Company, Rafig Abdullayev said that it would not have been possible to sign the oil contracts if the Great Leader had not returned to power. Heydar Aliyev's personality and greatness neutralized the pressures at that time and removed all the obstacles to signing the "Contract of the Century". In his speech, he emphasized that Ilham Aliyev, who was appointed the first vice-president of SOCAR in 1994, was involved in the negotiation process and was one of the most active participants in the preparation and successful implementation of the new oil strategy.

At the end, Rafig Abdullayev said that the new oil strategy created by the Great Leader gave rise to the present powerful, victorious Azerbaijan and gave his recommendations to students who are engineers of the future.
