An event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of world-famous scientist, founder of fuzzy logic theory, honorary member of ANAS, professor Lotfi Zadeh has been held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
BEU Vice-Rector for International Relations, Associate Professor Manafaddin Namazov made a presentation on Lotfi Zadeh's biography and scientific creativity. He said that Lotfi Zadeh, a prominent figure who made significant changes in the history of science with his fundamental theories, was born in Baku. Lotfi Zadeh, who proudly said he was Azerbaijani and whose heart beat with his homeland, rendered matchless services in the development of science and technology, as well as in the establishment of intercultural dialogue.
Speaking about the scientific activity of the Azerbaijani scientist, M.Namazov gave information about the theory of fuzzy logic that brought him world fame and which was widely used in production being a revolution in world science. He noted that the application of fuzzy measurements in science has allowed to more adequately take into account the uncertainty of the processes taking place in nature and society. The Vice-Rector added that despite the fact that the theory was not accepted by the American scientific community for a long time, it attracted the attention of Japanese scientists in the 80s of last century, and they benefited from this unique theory. The application of Lotfi Zadeh's theory has brought billions to Japan, and fuzzy logic technology has been widely used in the production of various products by reputable companies. He informed the participants of the event that Lotfi Zadeh was awarded the highest Japanese award "Honda", which was awarded to Japanese scientists.
M.Namazov stressed that Lotfi Zadeh proposed 5 fundamental scientific theories (“Theory of Thoughts”, “Theory of Systems”, “Theoretical Computer Theory” and “Theory of Optimal Filters”, “Soft Computing”), as well as laid the foundation for the creation of digital control, information and communication systems. He added that the Institute of Information Technology "İnstitute Zadeh-ZİFT" was established in the city of Berkeley.
The Vice-Rector touched upon that the theories of the scientist who set a good example for youth being like a science school are applied today in all spheres of life, including economics, philosophy, sociology, politics and conflict resolution.
Dean of the Engineering Faculty of BEU, Associate Professor Huseyn Mirzayev stressed the importance of studying the rich heritage of Lotfi Zadeh and his scientific works at the University and made his proposals.
The event ended with speeches by the head of the Mathematics Department of BEU, associate professor Rakib Afandiyev, associate professor of the Department of Automation and Electroenergetics Rafael Huseynov and senior lecturer Hamed Kaghazchi.
