Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted a commemorative event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The commemorative event began with a minute of silence for memory of the innocent victims of the Khojaly tragedy. After the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a film reflecting the historical backgorund of the Khojaly tragedy was demonstrated.
In his speech, BEU Rector, Professor Havar Mammadov stressed that the Khojaly tragedy was the most horrible genocide committed against the Azerbaijani civilian population during the Armenian war of aggression against our country. The rector said that over the night from February 25 to 26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces violated all international law, inflicted heavy military equipment on the civilian population of Khojaly surrendered by Armenian side, brutally destroyed them and ruined the city.
As a result of a crime against not only against the Azerbaijani people, but humanity as whole, 613 civilian Azerbaijanis including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elders were brutally murdered. As a result, 8 families were completely annihilated, 130 children lost one parents, while 25 both of them. In addition, 487 civilians were seriously injured and 1,275 people were taken hostage, with 155 of them still missing.
The rector drew attention to the measures taken to convey the truth about the Khojaly genocide to the world community and international organizations after the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power as requested by people. Considering that President Ilham Aliyev continued this policy in accordance with the realities of the new era, H. Mammadov emphasized the steps taken within campaign titled "Justice for Khojaly!" organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
H.Mammadov stressed that during the panel discussions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh within the Munich Security Conference held in Germany 10 days ago, President Ilham Aliyev once again conveyed Azerbaijan's fair position to the world community with historical facts. The rector said that with reasonable, historical and official facts Mr. President showed the world community Armenia's policy of aggression and the fact that the Nagorno-Karabakh region has always been the land of Azerbaijan. Pashinyan, who became incapable in front of the President of Azerbaijan, proved his illiteracy in the eyes of the world community and let the world know that he did not understand both historical and modern politics.
