BEU students meet Kanan Karimli, a veteran of the Patriotic War

A meeting initiated and organized by the Department of Foreign Languages at Baku Engineering University (BEU) has been held with 23 year-old veteran Kanan Karimli, the participant of the Patriotic War. First year students of the dDepartment who study in specialties in which education is in English, as well as the students who study in dual degree program of BEU and Inha University attended the meeting.

Assoc.Prof Atraba Gul, the head of the Department of Foreign Languages spoke of the achievements attained in the sphere of professional army building as a result of the purposeful and successful policy realized by the President Ilham Aliyev. She underscored that our lands that were under occupation for more than 30 years were liberated under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and at the cost of power, professionalism, bravery and blood of Azerbaijani soldiers. A.Gul who reminded of the complex and challenging relief condition in the war emphasized that today Azerbaijani flag is being waved in Karabakh due to the bravery and courage of our martyrs, veterans and soldiers.

A.Gul remarked that the main objective for holding this meeting was the students’getting to know our veterans more closely, and also showing to our veterans they were in our hearts forever. The head of the Department who said that our University staff always remembered our martyrs and veterans talked about the active participation of BEU students in the project “Karabakh is Azerbaijan” during the Patriotic War.

Afterwards Kanan Karimli made his speech and stated that this meeting was very important to him, also a spiritual support. He expressed his special gratitude to professor Havar Mammadov, the rector of the University. He mentioned that university doesn’t only give education to the students, but also brings up soldiers who respect their veterans, who value their soldiers and who are always ready to sacrifice their lives for the Motherland. K.Karimli thanked the Department of Foreign Languages and Gunay Mammadova, a lecturer of the Department for initiating such a meeting.

Of note, K.Karimli who is from Ismayilli was called to the military service in May and did military communication course there. When the battles began, he took part in the fights in the direction of Fuzuli. K.Karimli transferred confidental data he found out with his fellow soldiers to the other units. As these pieces of data which set the direction of the fight were rendered only in a live form they were always in the center aimed at by the Armenian military men. He underwent fire when he was returning from one of such operations and consequently lost his right leg, also got a lot of shrapnel wounds in his body. The veteran will be operated soon again as he still has some of the shrapnels in his body.
