The scientific research activity of Baku Engineering University (BEU) is expanding year by year. Thus, 4 textbooks, 25 lesson resources, 89 teaching aids and programs were published by BEU employees in 2021, 1 invention and 2 patents were granted.
252 scientific research works on 42 problems and 84 topics were carried out in 23 existing departments of the University and 34 works on 25 topics were completed. The Web of Science platform had a total of 130 publications (181 publications on behalf of BEU in total) and 812 references to them. 115 articles were published in the Scopus database. The University's H-index was 16, the reference per article was 5.01, which was the third best indicator among Azerbaijani universities
The University has a subscription to the Web of Science platform operating in our country on the basis of an agreement with the Ministry of Education. From 2018, employees who have publications on this platform and in the Scopus database receive a one-time cash prize.
In 2021, 192 scientific conference of BEU employees were published, 31 of which abroad and 161 theses in Azerbaijan.
Moreover, in the 2020/2021 academic year, 87 articles were published abroad, including 40 in impact factor journals, and 290 scientific articles were published, including 203 in Azerbaijan.
The strategic plan to increase the number of articles in international scientific journals was achieved by more than 40%. Although the number of publications in scientific journals with an impact factor was set at 35, 40 studies of BEU employees were published.
BEU staff is in the top ten among the country's universities in terms of the number of publications in the Thomson Reuters database and in the top three in the social sciences.
2 local and 1 international patents were granted for inventions authored and co-authored by BEU employees. Of note, in the 2020/2021 academic year, the patent was granted by U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on January 9, 2020 for the invention "Methods and Systems for Electrochemical Reduction of Substitutes" authored by the head of Chemical Engineering Department of BEU, assoc.prof. Yusif Abdullayev. The invention was also patented by the World Intellectual Property Organization.
In 2021, BEU won a grant from the Ministry of Education to develop a curriculum and teaching resources for the master's degree in Cybersecurity, as well as a grant to increase the teaching and research capacity of the Department of Electronics and Automation.
In total, the results of scientific research works by the University staff in 2017-2020 included 18 monographs, 13 textbooks, 42 lesson resources, 268 foreign and 448 scientific articles in the country, 183 scientific conference publications, including 91 abroad and 2 copyright certificates and 3 patents.
Furthermore, BEU ranks second among Azerbaijani higher education institutions according to the scientific parameters of the popular Web of Science in Publons. Among the BEU employees who have reviewed more than 100 scientific articles in the last 3 years, it is possible to mention the names of the Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, Associate Professor Elchin Suleymanov and the Head of Economics Department, Associate Professor Shahriyar Mukhtarov.
