Baku Engineering University (BEU) has hosted an event entitled "From darkness to sunshine" with the support of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The purpose of the event, organized by “Youth League for Intercultural Cooperation” Public Union, is to keep young people away from drugs and bad habits, and involve them in sports.

In his opening speech, the Dean of Education Faculty of BEU, assoc.prof. Elshad Abdullayev spoke about the importance of the event. Noting that drug addiction was the painful problem of our time, the Dean called on students to stay away from this wordwide scourge. 

Elchin Chobanzada, chairman of “Youth League for Intercultural Cooperation” Public Union, underlined that the fight against drugs was carried out at the state level and his organization regularly took measures in this area. Emphasizing that they were in constant contact with governmental and non-governmental organizations combating drug abuse in our country, the Chairman called on young people to stay away from harmful habits.

At the event, psychologist Parvana Bakhshaliyeva provided in-depth information about characteristics of psychoactive drugs, their harmful effects on health, the stages of drug addiction, the problems in the family, as well as about the withdrawal of addict from society and his return to normal life.   

Afterwards, Hamid Yunusov, a former drug addict and now head of the Free Life Rehabilitation Center, took the floor. Highlighting that the drug addiction was a social problem of the world, H.Yunusov spoke about the measures taken in our country to combat drugs. He mentioned ways to overcome this scourge in the example of Ruslan Hashimov, who appealed to the rehabilitation center.

The event ended with answering students' questions.
