BEU hosts educational event dedicated to "Mediation and Judicial Practice"

Under the arrangement of NAP Youth Union of Baku Engineering University (BEU), an educational event dedicated to "Mediation and Judicial Practice" has been held..

Noting that the development of mediation and reforms in this area in Azerbaijan were intensive, BEU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Bayram Huseynzada emphasized that relevant legislation acts on mediation were adopted last year. By stating the importance of the event, the Vice-Rector stressed the significance of increasing the knowledge of students on alternative dispute resolution.

Later, a member of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, lawyer Rashad Aliyev delivered a speech on "Mediation and Judicial Practice." Highlighting that the normative-legal base of the Azerbaijani mediation, including regulation in accordance with the international practice was established with the support of international organizations, R.Aliyev added that the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Mediation came into full force in July 2021, and other legislative acts were amended.

By touching upon the importance of awareness-raising meetings on mediation, the lawyer said that mediation was a procedure, whereby the parties wished to settle their dispute through one or more mediators assisting the parties to reach an agreement. 

R.Aliyev pointed out that the mediation shall apply to disputes arising out civil, economic, family, labor, administrative law relations.

Rashad Aliyev touched upon the main functions of the Mediation Council and the implementation of control in this area. He brought to the attention that in accordance with the legislation of the Council, disciplinary actions shall be taken about mediators violating their duties by carrying out control measures in various ways.

In his speech, the lawyer gave detailed information on the conclusion of a marriage contract, the right of inheritance, alimony and other issues.
