Employees of Baku Engineering University (BEU) assoc.prof. Isa Gasimov, assoc.prof. Parviz Hasanov and Etibar Gahramanov have taken part in the initial stage of research conducted within the CAMPAIGNers project on the basis of the HORIZON 2020 programme.
The current stage of the research was conducted in Azerbaijan, Austria, Finland, France, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, South Africa and Peru. The results of the 166-page study were submitted to the project coordinator for publication.
It should be noted that Baku was selected as one of the Lighthouse Cities in the research conducted on the basis of the CAMPAIGNers project. The research was conducted on the individual views of people on the formation of anthropogenic greenhouse gases in the Lighthouse Cities, including Baku. Citizens' attitudes towards climate change and global warming, anthropogenic sources affecting them, what kind of energy sources they prefer, their attitude towards decisions about the vehicles they use, as well as about the types of renewable energy were studies. The factors that influence people's perceptions of a clean and healthy environment were also examined.
On the basis of HORIZON 2020 programme, BEU is participating for the first time as a partner in a project funded by the European Union and won by the Johannes Kepler University in Austria under the leadership of the Energy Institute. Other project partners (28 partners in total) are universities, companies, municipalities and public organizations from 14 foreign countries (Turkey, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, France, Finland, Greece, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, Lithuania and Peru).
It should be noted that the project aims to contribute to solving the problems caused by climate change in humans, affecting them and human-centered. Under the current project, barriers to change in people's lifestyles will be identified through research methods and analysis, and new lifestyle patterns will be identified and tested with innovative solutions. A mobile application called CAMPAIGNers will be developed to disseminate and use the results in the community. Moreover, the impact of lifestyle changes on greenhouse gases and the region's energy and economy will be examined using modeling tools used by the European Union. Once the mobile application is developed, people from around the world will be involved in the process. Using this application, people will be able to change their lifestyle based on the tasks assigned to them. The results of this change will be collected as information, as well as used as a means of motivation for people in other parts of the world. During the project, 15 million residents of 16 cities on 5 continents will use this mobile application to encourage the participation of other people.
