Baku Engineering University in the annual report of UNESCO

Baku Engineering University (BMU) is included in the annual report of UNESCO, and the works done at the university on the commercialization of science, the development of startups is noted in the document. Thus, in the section of the report related to the Republic of Azerbaijan, it was noted that Yeni Fikir (New Idea) was a start-up competition backed by the Baku Engineering University and sponsored by British Petroleum.

The annual report noted that the Yeni Fikir startup competition, which promoted and supported the development of innovative entrepreneurship, initiatives and startups, had secured support for 100 projects and provided 35 of these with incubation services.

Moreover, it was shown that  initiatives supported by the Korea International Development Agency, such as the Smart Bridge or the Promotion of Digital Government, were striving to enhance technology transfer, university–business collaboration and the capacity to survey e-governance needs. It was emphasized in the report that  focus on promoting technology uptake grabbed attention, even as activity generating science and innovation directly remained limited.

The UNESCO report, which reflected the development of science in the world, including the commercialization of science and the development of startups, focused on the development of science, one of the main parameters of the innovation economy, which was a priority of new world trends.

The report also reflected indicators related to the Republic of Azerbaijan. Thus, pages 332-335 of the report, which has a volume of more than 700 pages, provide information on indicators and analysis about the Republic of Azerbaijan. Information about our country is shown in comparison with the countries in the Black Sea basin. The report provides comparative information on scientific research, including scientific publications, the commercialization of science, the application of research results to the economy, university-industry cooperation and other such issues.
