     The competition aims to increase interest in student satellite projects in our country; to represent Azerbaijan with more experienced teams in ithe analogical nternational competitions and to achieve successful results; to acquire practical skills and habits for the preparation of nano and other real satellites in our country by local professionals.The Cansat competition was first held in 1999 among Japanese and American university students under the name of "ARLISS". The CanSat competition is held in Azerbaijan since 2018. This competition is called "CanSat Azerbaijan," and  is intended for students of higher education institutions. In the first stage 6 teams of Baku Engineering University participated in the competition. However, 2 of them became a finalists.

     An event was held at the National Aviation Academy on the occasion of announcing and awarding the winners of the CanSat Azerbaijan 2018 competition. Rector of BEU, Professor Havar Mammadov attended the event. Participants of the event first acquainted with the satellite models prepared by teams. Greeting the guests, Arif Pashayev stressed the importance of the “Cansat Azerbaijan 2018” competition and and said that this compatition increases the interest of young students in space technology.

      Minister of Education, Jeyhun Bayramov underlined that the winners of the competition will represent Azerbaijan in the internatinal competitions in the future. Attention and care for the human capital development by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gives its positive results. As a result of successful state policy, Azerbaijan has been included on the list of countries with cosmic industry. At the end, winners were awarded. “RODİMUS” of BEU was awarding 3rd place, but "BeuNg" team was named “"The Most Innovative Approach".
